OUR STORY

First days after Russian invasion we focused on

  • arranging transport from the border 
  • organising accommodation at the camp
  • providing meals for people in the camp
  • offering psychological support and creating a sense of security

Expanding camp and long-term capacities

  • expanding the camp capacity  (300 beds) and creating long-term large-capacity accommodation - hostels with meals/food provision  (520 beds)
  • cooperating with the regional governing bodies and obtaining access to additional accommodation places (250 beds)
  • finding accommodation in the flats, apartments and rooms of host families  (250+ people)

UKRAINSKA SPILKA Humanitarian Aid Dispensary & Ukrainian Information Centre

We established the Ukrainska Spilka, the Ukrainian Association, through which we distribute food, toiletries, clothing and further humanitarian aid for all Ukrainian refugees living in Žilina region

In addition, Ukrainian-speaking staff help with the processing of documents needed to obtain financial support from the state, job searches, health care and education

Tasks we are currently working on

  • the provision of intensive Slovak language courses for approximately 2,000 people who have decided to stay in the region
    For Ukrainians it is possible to learn the basics of Slovak in a short time
  • the establishment of a day centre for children aged 2 to 7
    To enable their mothers to attend language courses and work
  • looking for job opportunities for women that honour their education and experience, and that are adequately rewarded financially

    NEXT: We will focus on finding a long-term solution, to enable Ukrainians and their families who wish to settle in Žilina after the war
